A Christmas Angel for Desole

Desole had his Christmas wish come true!!!! A month ago a wonderful woman named Kay decided to foster a cat for the first time. She contacted Street Cat Rescue and was shown all the cats waiting for a foster home. Of all the adorable cats and kittens that were available she chose Desole. She said he just spoke to her with his sad eyes and missing ear. It was the perfect solution for Des as he was given to chasing other cats when he had to share a house but was lonely when he was isolated in his own room. Living with one
human and zero cats is his ideal situation.

The next evening Des was transported to his new foster home and set up in his safe room which doubles as the computer room. Kay accidentally forgot to close the door – so – fast Des snuck out and went under her bed on Saturday morning. He stayed under the bed but still he loved it when people sat on the floor talking to him and petting him. Then Monday at 4AM he came out and made sure she knew that he was going for a wander around. So, now he is out and about and then goes back under the bed for a nap. He is now starting to eat and drink and use the litter box .

His foster mom went shopping for him and got a beautiful scratch post at Petsmart and many other goodies for him. He will be well looked after – when he was under her bed, she took her crocheting in and
worked and talked to him a lot. So now it’s just a matter of time until he totally takes over! Des is still waiting for a forever home but, in the meantime, he will be living in the lap of luxury. His lonely days are over.

Kay says he follows her around like a puppy and sits at her feet. He drags her balls of yarn down the hall for sport. He is still afraid of visitors and loud noises but is completely at home there and so well cared for.
Kay turned out to be Desole’s Christmas Angel.

Hello!

My new home just keeps getting better and better. There are lots of high spots for me to sit on. Unfortunately, my new people keep putting things on it, like cards and kleenex boxes. I just push them onto the floor. They don't seem to understand that I like to sit on the top of the china cupboard, and walk on the table, or the kitchen counter. How am I supposed to look out the window if I don't?

They have lots of toys but I have two new favorites. I really like kleenex boxes. You pull one white fluffy thing out and another pops up. You pull it out and yet another pops up. It goes on and on until That Guy or Mommy finds me. I also really like the big long stick used for measuring. It has something called a leather thong which is really fun to chew on. Then I can grab the thong and drag it everywhere. I dragged it across That Guys desk and knocked all his papers on the floor. It was funny. And then I got to help him pick up all the papers. They make really nice rustley sounds.

I tried to visit with my people again last night. I tried two or three times but they kept pushing me off the bed and saying be quiet, I'm sleeping. So I told them all about my adventures while they picked all the cards and kleenex boxes up in the morning.

I thought my Mommy had a foot fetish but it turns out that she was just checking my paws. I have black pads which means I am a Seal Point kitty. My mommy tells me that Chocolate kitties have pink pads.

I have a new name. It's a Siamese name because I am Siamese if you please. My new name is Tam Ling. It means Naughty like a Monkey. I kind of like it. It suits me because I'm kind of naughty, but I'm not sure what a Monkey is.

Well this has been a long letter and my paw is getting tired cause I can only hit one key at a time. I'm going to have a nap.

Hi Everyone!

I'm at my new home. I wasn't too sure about it at first, but it seems to be okay. I was kind of cranky to the other cats when I got here and now that I'm not so cranky they seem to remember that I was rude when I met them. I explained that I had just lost my kitties and my cage and the pudgy cat at my old home had my toy. They seem to be a little more understanding now.

My new mommy and "that guy" seem to be okay. They like to scratch my chin. I like them to scratch my chin. They also have lots of treats. I sang them a song yesterday. We also chased paper and string around the room. That was fun!

They have sunshine here. I lay on a big squishy cushion in it all yesterday afternoon. What luxury. Because I got all caught up on my sleep I woke up really early this morning. So, I thought that I would go talk to my new people. They didn't really seem to want to talk to me so I went back downstairs and snooped through a bunch of boxes and bags full of presents from something called Christmas.

But, it's nap time now so I will catch up with you all later.

CALENDAR UPDATE

I wanted to give the group an update on the calendars as we did a big pickup this week from locations where the calendar was being sold and had a really good day at Lawson Heights Mall for our autograph session last weekend.

I am happy to be able to tell you that in just over a month we sold 561 calendars, and made a net profit of over $6000.00 that will go to SCAT programs.

At the start of this project, since we got going so late in the year, we thought we might sell 50 or 100 calendars, and we anticipated it would be primarily at 'test' year so we could learn from it and do it big next year. We did learn a lot, but we sure underestimated how many we might sell in our first year!

There were other benefits to this project as well. We received over $300 in donations at our two public sale events at the Co-op and Lawson Mall. We talked to a lot of people and educated them about what SCAT does, and numerous individuals indicated they were interested in fostering or volunteering. And we know Street Cat's name and information about our programs and how people can help will be hanging in homes and offices all over Saskatoon; we can't wait to see what effect that will have throughout the year!

We still have calendars left, and as we have already covered all our expenses, every calendar sold puts $20 back into SCAT's coffers. So please feel free to continue to tell people about it!

Thanks to everyone who helped with the calendar project or promoted the calendars in any way. Happy New Year - the year of "Men with Cats".

Dear SCAT

Thank you for rescuing us...We love our new home..

We now have a heated house with food and water when ever we want it.. ( we are getting a little fat ) but really like it..

It has a micro chip reader in the door so only we can come in and go out, but at night, it gets turned to a different setting

so only we can come in and not go back outside till the morning when it's light out again.

A mother that loves and protects us and gives us treats.. We even come when we are called now

Mice, mice, mice ,, whenever we want to play and torment something..Not for too long as the kittens eat them very quickly..

Trees to run and play in behind the garage with many places to hide and play tag under.

We even follow mom and the dogs to the horse barn.. That 's big excitement.. Lots of open space to run really fast to the next tree to hide under till we get to the barn.

We're growing big and strong ..

Feral Relocation Sites needed asap.

This little guy's name is Quetzel. He is a sweet little boy with weather tattered ears. He is a feral and so would do better on an acreage/farm. He can't be returned to where he came from, unfortunately, so we are looking for some place to relocate him. Requirements include a place to get in out of the weather, a way to confine him for a minimum of two weeks while he adjusts to the new locatio...n, people and resident animals, a confinement space/cage that is roamy enough to move around in to include a hidey hole warm spot, fresh food and water regularly, monitor for medical issues and will take to vet when needed. If you look on our photo page here you will see a sample of a relocation cage and hidey hole. And an application form on our www.streetcat.ca Forms and Info page for feral relocation. We actually have about 3 more just like Quetzel, as well, needing relocation locations. Give us a call if you have any questions.

Good News to Report:

We are in week 10 of the Home 4 the Holidays campaign. Our adoption goals were set at 15 cats and 30 kittens to be adopted. To date we have adopted 13 cats and 25 kittens!!!!! In the whole campaign last year we only adopted 13 cats/kittens total. Awesome!

PetSmart is hosting three weekends of Santa Claws® photo events at all stores. This annual e...vent gives pet parents the opportunity to commemorate the season by having a digital photo of their pet taken with Santa and placed in a collectable holiday frame for $9.95 with a PetPerks® card. “Men with Cats” is here! SCAT Cat Calendar!

SCAT Street Cat Rescue is proud to announce its first annual calendar - Men with Cats. Twelve Saskatchewan men from twelve different professions participated, along with some of the cutest cats on the planet. Add in professional photographers and a graphic designer who volunteered their time and expertise to put it all together, and the result is nothing short of magical.

The final touches are being placed on the calendar and it will be available soon. Demand is already high from those who have seen the initial results, with many people finding it so amazing, and so different than all the other calendars out there, they want four or more calendars for friends, relatives, and coworkers. In order to make sure we have enough calendars to meet this demand, we are taking pre-orders.

To make sure you can get this wonderful product for yourself or for Christmas presents for others, reserve your calendars now. The calendars are $20.00 each, with all proceeds going toSCAT Street Cat Rescue for their work in helping cats and kittens abandoned or living on the street, providing them with medical care, foster homes, and offering them lifelong support by placing them in adoptive homes or managed colonies.

Once the calendars are printed, they will be available for sale at the SCAT Adoption Centre, through volunteers, and at selected vet clinics in Saskatoon. However, demand is already high, and your pre-order will ensure you get your calendars before Christmas.

DESOLE:

Desole (Des) is a friendly young male cat who has seen a lot of misery in his short life. He was scrounging food outdoors and appeared to be injured so Streetcat Rescue agreed to take him in the program. He was trapped and taken to a veterinarian. They discovered he had likely been hit by a car which cracked several teeth and broke a back leg. This would have caused a lot of pain. In addition, one ear has severe frostbite so he has had to endure winter without proper shelter. It was such as sad and sorry case that we gave him the name Desole (“sorry” in French). But he also goes by Des.

The original plan was to have him released back to the street once he had been neutered and treated for his injuries. But while at the vet, they discovered he is very friendly with human care-givers and decided he would make a good house-cat and companion animal. He loves to be petted and gives lots of head-butts and whisker kisses. He also has a sweet little mew when he wants attention. He is only learning to play with toys so he may not have had a normal upbringing in a house. Despite that, however, he is very neat and quiet and litter-trained. He also is extremely food-motivated and eats whatever is put in front of him.

He was at the vet for several weeks and then released into foster care with the person who first found him. In spite of slow and careful introductions to the household, there still are some territorial issues between Des and the resident male cat. These have not been resolved so Des continues to live in a small room by himself. He is very lonely and starved for human companionship but just cannot co-exist with the other male cat.

Des needs to find a new home – permanent adoption or a foster arrangement. He would do well in a home with no cats or perhaps with a female cat or very confident, calm cats. He may adapt to an acreage if he had sufficient shelter and human interaction.

Thank you to Jack! Jack was visiting our Adoption Centre today when a call came in about two babies found in a dumpster, so he volunteered his time to go get the kittens, take them to our teenie tinies foster mom, Donna, and then returned the carrier back to the Centre. How awesome is that - to go out of your way and spend time out of your scheduled day. Awesome! Thank you, so much, Jack! Those little 3 1/2 week old kittens really appreciate it.

National Feral Cat Day (NFCD), October 16, is an opportunity to remind people that helping feral cats is in the best interests of the community.

Knowledge is the key to providing a better life for feral cats. You will find some interesting links below this email about feral cats.

Organizations across Canada, such as SCAT Street Cat Rescue, launch hundreds of rescue missions every year to better the lives of feral cats with organizations such as feral cat experts Neighborhood Cats leading the way.

PetSmart Charities Canada estimates the number of feral cats in a target area (human population divided by 6.0). Saskatoon has a human population of 231,900. Using the PetSmart Charities Canada calculation, that means there is an estimated feral cat population of 38,650. Though our severe winter months would bring this total down in comparison to many other locations, it still means there are a lot of cats that need your help.

The task of managing an at-large cat population is a battle that can only be won through the combined efforts of the entire community.

Your support is a critical part of the work to protect the lives of cats every day. Please share this message with others in the hope that we can encourage everyone to help or at least to learn more about the lives of feral cats and how much they need protection. Please consider making a contribution to SCAT Street Cat Rescue in honor of National Feral Cat Day.

I am a firm believer in networking. It takes teamwork to be able to do the job of rescuing animals to the best of our abilities.

Working together with another animal rescue organization means that there is access to additional help for certain situations.

I'm not sure if it's the time of year or the weather or the increase in Saskatoon's population, or indeed, all and more of these, but SCAT Street Cat Rescue Adoption Centre has its phone ringing off the hook with so many calls for help. We came across three cats that we didn't have room for but needed help.

Thanks to the People For Animals, Regina, these cats now have another chance to find a great home.

After an uneventful trip to Regina, they settled in nicely. These guys will definitely ease into a new home with little trouble. They are so sweet and loving. They will make exceptional roommates for someone.

Hello!

My name is Kim C..... At the beginning of July, my boyfriend and I adopted two kittens from you via PetSmart. We had been planning on a pet for months and were so excited. We made a special trip to the city from our home two hours away to adopt. Sadly, the SPCA was closed that day due to Pets in the Park and were heartbroken. Luckily, a volunteer working that day at PetSmart (and I can't recall her name!) let us pick out our kittens and made arrangements for us to meet with Linda Gubbe, who kindly took us in on a Sunday and filled out the adoption forms for us. The generosity and patience of the workers at PetSmart and the volunteers at SCAT truly made our year. I was touched by all the help you gave us and all the advice you handed on.

We are now the two proud parents of Rupert and Roland (once Anton and Rodin), who are as happy as can be. They have adapted wonderfully to their new home and even to each other. They regularly play with each other and even nap together on the couch or on their new cat condo. They're busy growing, getting into trouble and discovering out basement, which we just got stairs put into. We couldn't be happier about Rupert and Roland and I would just like to say thank you once again. I can't imagine my life without them, even after such a short time.

Could You be Happy with a Special Needs Cat?

For the past few months, Casper has had a home with Dennis. Here is Casper’s story:

Casper was trapped in a feral colony in 2003 and identified as a friendly cat, probably someone's companion. He came to live at the SCAT Centre for six months and then was amazingly reunited with his original family from whom he had gone missing for over a year.

Sadly, in January 2011 he turned up on the streets again and the finder took him to the Saskatoon SPCA. When his original family could no longer be traced, the SPCA was happy to transfer him back to SCAT.

He was this time, however, in very rough shape and it was discovered that he now had diabetes.

After several months of loving care by our foster home, Dennis, including daily insulin injections, and with the support of the Small Animal Clinic at U of S, he is now doing really well.

Is it rewarding for Dennis to care for a cat like Casper? We think the picture says it all.

Estralita - against all odds!

Estralita is a small beautiful Tabby-Siamese cross with brilliant blue.

Her life in the back alleys must have been hard because she is still fearful of unknown noises and has a darling little growl when she is not sure of things; but once she feels safe again, she has an assuring meow and huge motor purrs. She is such a mushy-lovey kitty, so filled with love that you can see it overflowing.

Estralita seems normal to look at her and to accept her outpouring of love, but she is a very special little kitty.

It has been discovered that she hole in her heart and a very narrow blood vessel from her heart. Specialists have been consulted and little Estralita is what’s called in humans as a “blue baby”.

The recommendation is that our very special little Estralita needs a very very special person to keep her happy and peaceful. Someone who will give her the love she deserves and who will accept the love that Estralita wants to badly to bestow onto them, no matter how short or how long her special life will be.

Despite this condition, this little girl has defeated the odds by not only surviving terrible and stressful conditions outside, but also gave birth and cared for three healthy babies who are now all in forever homes and doing very well.

She eats well and has even put on almost a kilo of weight since she came into the SCAT program, and she loves to play.

Just recently foster mom introduced her to Manhattan, a very gentle and laid-back fellow and a happy relationship is being formed. This is nice as Estralita is not alone in her room and Manhattan, with his own medical conditions, is such a gentleman.

Estralita is coming out of her fearful shell very nicely and recently is beginning to rule the downstairs area, is curious about everything that foster mom does down there, every door must be explored. She has energy to burn! One would never know that she has a medical condition. She rarely growls now but has quite a demanding siamese meow when she demands attention. Manhattan, who had a broken diaphram from a kick or hit from a car and had to have his inner organs all arranged into place by our kind vet, has the patience for Estralita who is a little sprite of whirling energy and then snuggles up to Manhattan.

Foster mom has been trying to get good photos of Estralita, but true to her energetic spirit, Estralita's quick movements are way ahead of the digital camera. She does, however, love to jump up and curl into foster mom’s lap when she stops to sit in her recliner. Now, to get those photos!

George's dad sent us a new photo of George. How happy and healthy he looks! Great photo! Great home!

(Little George was a little deaf kitty that we had at Petsmart a number of times. When the musical production "Cats" was at the TCU, we had a table inside and we had Little George with us. We put white angle wings on him and walked about with him on a leash and our begging bowl. I would lift him way up above peoples' heads and really get their attention. It was marvelous. What a sweety. Tonya)

(When newly introduced to the Center, it helps make them feel more comfortable if the newcomer has their own space and helps the "nose to nose" with the present residents go a little smoother for everyone.)

SCAT needs a good location to hold a garage sale. Weather permitting, we would like to set up a garage sale Friday Aug.26 and Sat. Aug. 27. We have lots of stuff donated, but, we need a good location, where stuff could be dropped off Thursday Aug. 25 and people could set up and start a sale on the Friday and continue till Sat. If weather is not cooperating, then we would try for the long weekend the next weekend.

2011 Saskatchewan SPCA Animal Welfare Conference: Sept. 23-25 in Saskatoon

This year’s Animal Welfare Conference offers something for everyone interested in animal welfare. On Friday morning, featured speaker is Phil Arkow, internationally known lecturer, author and humane educator. His presentation will examine the implications of animal abuse in domestic violence. A panel discussion in the afternoon will consider ways to improve inter-agency communication and cooperation in order to help the human and the animal victims of violence.

On Saturday, Kit Jenkins of PetSmart Charities provides an entertaining and informative look at People Skills for Animal Welfare People. In the afternoon, learn more about Body Condition Scoring small animals from Dr. Rekha Orchard. Well-known clicker trainer and author Sue Ailsby describes the use of service dogs for soldiers suffering from emotional trauma as a result of their combat experiences. Kit Jenkins closes the day with a fascinating look at ways to reduce stress for cats in shelters and foster homes.

Hi Everyone,

Today was a good day - there were 3 kitten adoptions, Tessa and Emma from Petsmart, and Keegan from Ruth's home. Yay.

Ruth has brought in a new kitten and put into the empty cage. This is Janelle, a calico manx, and she brought in information on the manx cat as they have a unique personality. You will find it stapled to Janelle's long info sheet in the stand on the table, cage 4. Ruth has the K kittens and Leanna (a polydactyl - many toes) and has brought in photos and info on these kittens. If you are talking to people and they are asking for kittens, please pull out this information and show them. Ruth is happy to show these kittens to interested people from her home. Just have the people call SCAT and you can call Ruth directly and give Ruth these people's tel number.

Little Ewan is now all by himself. He is such a sweet and quiet little boy. Please give him lots of hugs.

Also give lots of hugs to Neutron, Natalie, Nebulus and also Mario. Today people were coming by and studying all these cats for their beauty and size.

With great joy and tears (happy ones of course) we are happy to make an announcement ...

AND drum roll.....

BUDDY(aka General) was adopted today by a nice woman who lives in Silverwood!

We have asked her to keep us posted on how things go as this sweetheart has touched many human and feline hearts alike. Buddy has been a long time visitor of the SCAT Street Cat Rescue Centre and he always found a way to make newcomers feel at ease.

We wish him and his new family all the best.

"This past weekend my now husband, and I got married and we did something a little different though, instead of tinking glasses for kisses we had our guests put money into a pot to go towards Street Cat Rescue. For example, a minimum $5 donation would get the bride and groom to just peck each other on the lips, and the bigger the donation the juicier the kiss. It was a hit!!"

HOLY EXPLOSION OF KITTENS, BATMAN!

Bet you thought that May is typically the month for kittens? Right? Well, yes it is, BUT, August is too. During the last week, there has been an explosion of calls to SCAT Street Cat Rescue to find help for all kinds of cats, but particularly pregnant cats, and kittens and their moms.

One such call has SCAT volunteers working alongside the Saskatoon SPCA in a joint effort to help with a McNab Park situation. An abandoned house was found to contain over 20 cats, including several kittens of varying ages and several young feral adults. SCAT and the Saskatoon SPCA are working together to provide safe shelter and happy homes for all these cats. Both organizations are at capacity so they are looking to the great people of Saskatoon to help.

The large number of calls definitely is putting the SCAT volunteers through their paces as they try to keep up by finding additional resources of foster homes, supplies such as litter, and funding to pay for the medical needs of these little ones. It is important to ensure that these cats have a healthy start to their second chance at a great life.

The 'H' Kittens, Half-Way There!

On Friday my 4 little foster kittens and their mom will be at the half-way point of being ready to adopt. Habibi, the mom, is absolutely beautiful and sweet and one of the quickest-to-purr cats that I have ever met. She is getting more and more comfortable with an indoor life, slowly learning foreign concepts such as getting her nails clipped and being picked up.

This is my first experience with newborn kittens and it is really fascinating to watch their development. One of them, Hugo has shown his strong personality when he was as young as a week, crying when he heard my voice, and quickly crawling out of the first box. He's adorable but I think he'll be a bit of a troublemaker!

wonderfully. They are very sweet,
playful, and adventurous.

Henley will need a bit more love along the way. She is lovely but was the runt of the litter and is a bit of a fraidy-cat.

I hope the whole family finds some great new homes!

Success stories bring smiles to our face

SCAT Loves to hear from adopters, and we especially love photos. This is from Pillar, now Frankie,'s new pet parents.

We had adopted Pillar early this June from you guys. She has the new name of Frankentabby, or Frankie. We have 2 other cats besides her and the first few weeks had a lot of hisses. We also had our oldest cat (Mo - 11) become quite ill shortly after adopting Frankie with pancreas problems. She has recovered well and has taken Frankie under her wing. They play and nap together all day. Frankie is very good natured and weathered all the hissing and illness of the other cat well. She's also very smart and only scratches what she is supposed to and will pretty much love any new toy we bring her.

We would appreciate you letting her Foster Mom know that everything is going well, and that we are so happy she is a part of the family.

P.P.S. And I would be interested in volunteering, it couldn't be too much, both Mark and myself work full time. I also don't think we could take on anymore cats, especially since one has been a bit sickish and we are feeding 3 different cats 3 different foods.

I am however learning how to crochet my own cat toys, I am good with bookkeeping, and I do some photography on the side. Also if there are any special events let me know.

Please keep an eye on our blogs and our facebook page for events and fundraisers, or, even better, pop on by the Centre from time to time to find out things that are needed and happenings.

We are always looking for foster homes, of course, but it can take up to $8,000 to $10,000 a month, some months more, to provide the proper care for these cats.

Please encourage others to donate funds or perhaps have a small fundraiser at your work place. Every little bit helps.

Walk for Felines

FOSTER HOMES DESPERATELY NEEDED:

Sometimes situations arise where our foster families situation changes or the cat that they have so kindly taken in just doesn't fit in and this can cause unnecessary stress to the family and to the foster cat, so we sometimes find ourselves searching for a new place for the cat on short notice. With over 100 cats in foster homes all over Saskatoon already, we have a full program and it can be difficult to find open spots for them. We are always looking for new foster homes so that we can ensure the cats in our care are in a happy and stress-free environment with all the love and affection they desire without being overcrowded.

Situations like with Brandy. He is a striking orange and white tabby who is an affectionate, loving guy who has been waiting patiently for a home to call his own but he is selective about the people he bonds with so we are looking for someone to come and meet him and be willing to gain his trust.

If you are interested in hearing more about fostering Brandy or any other great cats that we have in our program please contact us and we would be happy to answer all your questions.

Working together to benefit the animals - Thank you to Saskatoon SPCA

On Wed I went to pick up some dry cat food that the Saskatoon SPCA graciously donated to us. As you can see by the picture it was a lot of food - even my backseat had a number of bags.

I have lived in Saskatoon 35 years and this was my first visit to the SPCA. I have always stayed away as I know I would like to take them all home. Cheryl from the SPCA gave me a tour of the facility.

Their new cat cages are really nice and are quite spacious. I noticed there were quite a few volunteers there playing with the cats and walking the dogs.

She showed me some of the dogs that were rescued from MacNutt. Unfortunately I know the place where these came from and am so very disgusted about what they had to endure. They are beautiful dogs just waiting for a good home.

Cheryl mentioned that they have received some help from some shelters in Alberta, which they really appreciated. In fact, there were 20 cats being driven to Lethbridge today by a volunteer.

The food that they gave to SCAT for our rescued cats is greatly appreciated by SCAT. It's great when people and organizations can work together to benefit the many animals in need. (And yes I wanted take all the cats and dogs home).

Stocks are low!

SCAT Street Cat Rescue is low on food and litter; wet food, dry food, clumping and non clumping litter. You name it, we can use it at the centre, for our feral feeding stations or our foster homes :) If you are on your way to the store, have a finicky cat that wont eat the stuff you have sitting in your cupboard or want to drop off a monetary donation for food and litter, just stop by the centre on the corner of 50th and Faithful. The cats thank you :)

Special Needs Cat Finds Extra Special Home

We wanted everyone to know about a special success story that we at SCAT Street Cat Rescue had the pleasure of working on.

Recently a young female dilute tortie was found just outside the city on an acreage. This little one was found to have a laundry list of health trouble. The little girl, initially named Belle, was not only blind, but was a feline leukemia positive kitty with irritable bowel syndrome as well. Although this was an admittedly tough sell for adoption our volunteers were determined not to give up on this little one.

Luckily, there are kind souls out there willing to take on such a case that requires a lot of work and after hearing the story of this girl, one of our volunteer's sisters did not hesitate to offer to adopt Belle. The only trouble was that she lived in Vancouver! So, after being checked and treated at All About Cats and Dogs in Saskatoon she made it safely to Vancouver (photo of her arrival on the right) to live with a volunteers sister and her husband.

They named her Fig, they already adore and love her so much! She has found all the soft sleeping places in their house including the bed, the fleece blanket on the couch and the husband's clothing shelf. She's very adventurous and purrs nonstop there. She needs eye drops 3 times a day (and eventually will likely need to have both eyes removed) and a special diet but no one is complaining. Even blind with a tricky tummy she has not a had a single accident outside her litter boxes. The volunteer's sister slept with her in the spare room the first 3 nights which her husband says is ok for now because she's new but he would eventually like his wife back with him...as long as she brings Fig too!

BBQ Fundraiser Success

Despite mother natures attempt to rain out our BBQ Fundraiser at Sobeys at Preston Crossing yesterday, our volunteers braved the weather and raised a grand total of $399.50.

The breakdown was $200 from food sales and the other $199.50 from generous donations. :)

A BIG Thanks to the volunteers seen here from left to right: Tracy, Theresa, Kristine as well as those not pictured Brenda, Pat and Ken for helping serve the hungry customers. Another BIG thank-you to everyone else who came out and supported, donated and spread the word.

Its another great fundraising success we couldn't have done without your support! The cats thank you!

Street Cat Booth - Pets in the Park

Hi Street Cat Team,

I will organizing the Street Cat Booth at Pets in the Park on July 10th. If anyone has anything that they have made or think that I can sell at the booth please let me know. (Pet store items are not allowed unfortunetely, as they will have their own booths). The more items I collect the more I can sell and the more money we can raise to help our furry friends. I am asking that if anyone has anything to donate to please drop it off at the Street Cat office by July 9th and to email me at tracypugh@gmail.com to let me know so I won't forget anything. Also, I will be looking for volunteers to man the booth with me and promote Street Cat. I look forward to hearing from you.
